Afro, Acrylics and Re-Indigenizing Black Marine Science: Dr. Tiara Moore’s Global Impact Across 34 Countries

Season 1 | Episode 1

ABOUT DR. TIARA MOORE

Dr. Tiara Moore, a marine ecologist from South Carolina, passionately champions diversity in science. Her extensive research has led her from the Chesapeake Bay to the breathtaking coral reefs of Mo'orea, where she delves into the profound impacts of pollution and spearheads environmental DNA analysis.

As the CEO of Black in Marine Science, Dr. Moore empowers Black marine scientists, fosters a supportive community, and provides invaluable research opportunities. Notably, she is also the founder of A WOC SPACE, an initiative dedicated to creating a safe and inclusive environment for women of color in STEM.

Beyond her groundbreaking research and influential leadership, Dr. Moore utilizes stand-up comedy as a compelling medium for science communication, sharing her unique journey as a minority woman in STEM.

Imagine the scientists who are supposed to be saving the Black community, if you will, from climate change, sea level rise and nutrient pollution are about to no longer be in this world because white people are bullying them at work. Like, I can’t even do my job of helping my community out with a sea-level rise because I’m in the bathroom crying. No, fuck that. No, we’re not gonna do that anymore!
